The Orginal St. Patrick’s Day Race

I have taken a few months off from one of my largest passions.  Running.  I have been given the ok by my surgeon to start getting out there and hitting the pavement again.  So my journey begins with signing up for my first race of the year.

The original St. Patrick’s Day 10km race sponsored by Strides Running Store in Calgary, Alberta.  Race day March 17th 2013.  This will be the third year that I have attended this event. The St. Patrick’s Day race is different from most races I have participated in, in the past.  For starters, once you have completed the race you are treated to a bowl of vegetarian or beef chili, fresh-baked buns and green scones.

The other interesting part of this event?  You can enter to win your body weight in Steam whistle beer.  What?!!! Yep that’s right.  There is a male and female winner of this fun drawbox contest.  The winner gets onto a teeter totter while steam whistle staff load up the other side with cases of their yummy beer.  When you are level with the beer your done.  All that is left to do if load your car with your payload.

You also have the option to buy a ticket for the after party.  I honestly haven’t attended the after party before.  Normally I have something going on that night.  But I hear it is a wicked night of fun, music and laughs.

When signing up for this event you MUST be careful that you sign up for the correct race.  Running Room also holds a St. Patrick’s Day event the same day.  Many a person has signed up for Running Rooms race thinking they were signing up for the same event as a friend to find out at package pick up that they are doing a completely different event.  Boo.  Remember Strides Running Store s holds the original St. Patricks Day event.  Celebrating its 26th year this year.

Has this peaked your interest?  Below is the link to the official site.  Come back after the event to see photos and reviews of this years race.
